Cool Climate Gardens of the Dandenong Ranges

NATIONAL RHODODENDRON GARDENS

The 42 hectare garden was first established in 1960 by the Australian Rhododendron Society for the display and propagation of rhododendrons in an Australian setting and now features important collections of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellilas and other native and exotic trees. The stunning National Rhododendron Gardens has amazing framed views of the Yarra Valley and Great Dividing Range.

CLOUDEHILL NURSERY AND GARDENS

Cloudehill Gardens is a 'must see' garden found at the top of The Dandenongs. Discover a maze of stone walls and jewel like garden rooms set within the woodlands of magnificent and historic, cool climate trees.  

Hours: 9am - 5pm

Cost: Adults $10 | Children - Free 

WILLIAM RICKETTS SANCTUARY

Ninety-two ceramic sculptures created by Willliam Ricketts, an artist who lived and worked at the Sanctuary for 60 years, are located in the natural surrounds of ferns and Mountain Ash trees.

PIRIANDA GARDEN

Pirianda Garden is a 11 hectare secluded hillside woodland garden containing many botanically significant exotic plants that are rare in Australia. Pirianda Garden has magnificent views featuring a fern gully walk, terraced garden beds in the valley and the house built by the Ansell’s in 1962.

GEORGE TINDALE MEMORIAL GARDEN 

A 3 hectare garden developed to collect, study, record and display a choice of rare cultivated ornamental plants suited to the climate of the Dandenong Ranges.

ALFRED NICHOLAS MEMORIAL GARDEN 

Originally part of the adjoining Burnham Beeches estate, this was one of Victoria’s largest traditional hill stations established in the first half of the 1900s and is the only garden of its type to be open to the public. Alfred Nicholas Memorial Garden features an impressive ornamental lake, boat house, waterfall and ponds.

KARWARRA GARDENS AT KALORAMA 

Set on two hectares, Karwarra is devoted to displaying the diversity of Australian native plants in a landscaped setting.

Hours: 10am - 4pm (Tuesday to Friday) | 1pm - 4pm (Weekends) | Closed Monday

SKYHIGH Mount Dandenong 

Get unparalleled vista views of Melbourne’s skyline at SkyHigh Mount Dandenong. Surrounded by sweeping lawns of the English Garden, immerse yourself in the dappled sunlight and vast birdlife.

Cost: $6 per car | $10 per mini bus

R J HAMER ARBORETUM 

One of the more notable and unique gardens within the Dandenongs is the R.J Hamer Arbortem. With views that stretch across to Silvan Dam and the Yarra Valley, the R.J Hamer Arboretum provides visitors with 120 hectares of breathtaking scenery and tranquil beauty.

MT DANDENONG ARBORETUM 

The Mount Dandenong Arboretum extends over 16 hectares and contains a collection of maturing deciduous trees and conifers from around the world.
