Puffing Billy Railway

Puffing Billy is Australia’s favourite steam train and is one of the finest preserved steam railways in the world. This century old steam train is still running on its original 24 kilometre mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook, through the beautiful forests and fern gullies of the Dandenong Ranges.

The open-sided carriages are the best way to see the stunning views and you can even dangle your legs over the side of the carriages – if you dare!

You can catch the train at any of the stations along the way, or watch the train go by from one of the stations’ refreshment rooms.

Alternatively, you can travel first class in the comfort of their luxury, fully enclosed dining carriages, on the daily ‘Steam & Cuisine’ Luncheon Train', or on their ‘Dinner & Dance Train’, which departs on selected Friday and Saturday evenings.

Easily accessible by fast electric train from Melbourne. Tours are offered by all major day tour operators.

Murder on the Puffing Billy Express – An intriguing night of murder, mystery and suspense aboard Puffing Billy’s evening dining train special.

Jazz on Puffing Billy Railway – Your feet will be tapping to the Jazz music the moment you arrive at Puffing Billy’s Belgrave station platform, with live entertainment by Off the Cuff.

Rhythm & Blues on Puffing Billy –Travel aboard the Rhythm & Blues on Puffing Billy, for a night of live entertainment by local Melbourne band, Black and Blue.

Great Train Race – This race isn’t simply a race amongst the competitors…the exciting challenge is competing against the steam locomotive, Puffing Billy, over 13.2 kilometres through the hills and fern gullies of the picturesque Dandenong Ranges from Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park. This years race will take place on Sunday April 29th 2018.
